In its long journey from the ocean to your plate, the delicious seafood we enjoy passes through many hands, literally and figuratively.
There are over eight billion pounds of fish caught in the United States commercially and for recreation. Fishing communities from Kodiak, Alaska, to Key West, Florida, depend on the health and wealth of our ocean resources for their livelihood.
The Ocean Conservancy is working with fishermen to figure out how we can sustainably catch the fish, including ensuring the populations are able to recover, fishing techniques are not damaging to the ecosystems, and profitability for the fishermen increases. Read more

Groups Call on IMO to Set Strict Limits for Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Ships

Washington, DC — Conservation groups are urging the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to set strict limits on greenhouse gas emissions from the global shipping fleet as it begins deliberations in London today. Ships are credited with releasing over one billion pounds of carbon dioxide each year. There are only five countries that out-rank the global shipping fleet in carbon dioxide emissions – the shipping industry releases more carbon dioxide than Germany, and nearly as much as Japan according to IMO reports.

A new hydrogen-powered car, whose designs will be “open source” and posted for free use on the web, was unveiled today in London. The company behind the Riversimple urban car claim the new model proves hydrogen automotive technology is ready for roll-out now rather than in 10 years’ time.
