Organic Textiles – Growth in a Down Economy

We’ll look at some numbers in a second but first some personal experience. I have an online store for organic, fair labor, and eco friendly goods including clothing, bedding, and other organic and eco textiles. During the fall holiday season of 2008 several of my suppliers actually ran out of stock.

Ready to fall in love? We’re head over heels for these ridiculously hot ankle boots, which are to footwear what Robert Pattinson is to the rest of the male species. Called the Nadia, the boots are part of the Sui Generis by Beyond Skin collection. They’re ethically produced in the U.K. and totally vegan, made from linen-look organic hemp on the outside and metallic faux leather on the inside.

Rachel has one of the few shows where the comminucation skill is right where the rubber hits the road.
Basically the NeoCon Repubicans not only think the free market should be left alone, but that OUR money loaned off a near zero interest to banks, should be free of accountability. Literally Raiding the Treasury at the final moments of thier control.

Going Paperless… ?
January 10, 2009 by Ambassador of Green · 2 Comments

R.I.P. PLENTY MAGAZINE
Alas , true indie paper pubs, be they recycled fibers or not, are dissappearing at a stuning rate. We got the news through elephant journal, themselves a recently gone paperless publication, and they got the news through our friends at ecorazzi who got the news from Gawker. Its not that bad news travels fast, its that the web travels fast.
– bottom line, there are a lot fewer indie-green printrags out there on the stands now. Virtualization shall rule: web-enabled work appears to run the economy of cost-effective pub media for 2009.
CTN has always been targeting the best-of virtual mag marketspace, but we never felt competitive at all with our friends at other sites and print pubs… they are all dedicated smart and very sincere people well worth having around.
but it looks like …

So you really still have that old computer sitting in the corner or under the desk and know its time to heave that stuff out, but cant quite take the landfill outcome that produces… and besides it still works. You are not alone.
The Freecycle Network™ is made up of 4,662 groups with 6,302,000 members across the globe. It’s a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It’s all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills.

LED Lights: Efficient Indoor Growing
LED grow lights are a good choice if you are interested in growing indoors without a lot of hassle. Traditional grow lights generate a lot of heat and use large amounts of electricity, which raises your monthly electric bill by noticeable amounts. These LED grow lights stay cool, and use only a minuscule amount of energy. Each “SolarOasis Ruby Grow Light” uses less than 2 watts of power. They are designed and optimized for plant growth, not human vision. They produce only red and blue light which the plants can use.

Six Tried-and-True Strategies

for Inspiring Environmental Change
Many workers view sustainable practices as one more thing to add to an already overburdened workload - proof positive that their managers aren’t communicating on this issue as effectively as they could. John Marshall Roberts, strategic communications consultant at Evenson Design Group, takes a practical look at the art of inspired leadership.
Many business leaders find it challenging to lead others on the path to sustainability - and not necessarily because they’re working with a tough audience (although that happens too). Rather the trouble lies in their inability to communicate in way that generates real-world action and measurable results. But certain individuals seem to have cracked the code - they ve figured out how to turn environmental conversations into sustainable changes for their companies, and for the environment.
What exactly are these leaders doing differently, and how can we learn from them? I spoke to a few and came up with the following six tried-and-true principles.
